Today I have been delivering leaflets promoting David Phillip Estate Agents to the residents of Bramhope, and as I walked around this lovely area in North Leeds I was impressed with the number of beautiful Christmas wreaths adorning many of the properties, it got me thinking about the Christmas traditions that we have not only in the UK but also around the world – here are a few.

Getting busy for the festive fun? We mustn’t forget about our pets, as they are part of the family and can enjoy the festivities too. Whilst most of them like being pampered at Christmas when family and friends descend upon the home, it is important to try to keep them to as normal a routine as possible.

As the Met Office issues a weather warning and I needed to scrape the ice off my car this morning, I was thinking that at this time of year there is not much you can do about the outside temperature, but there are things you can do to keep warm inside, and more importantly take advantage of some little practical tips to stop the heat escaping and prevent burst pipes.

Historically, the Christmas and New Year holidays see record visits to sites such as Rightmove and Zoopla, with over 1.6m properties viewed online as people escape the Christmas turkey to think about their next move. Understandably, many people are reluctant to sell or let their property until after the New Year. But, if you are thinking of moving, selling or letting a property in January, can you afford not to put your property in front of potential buyers at this important time of year?

Channel 4’s decision to choose Leeds as its new national headquarters is great for this already vibrant city which is expected to move up to 800 staff and bring more than £1 billion to the region over the next decade. Channel 4 have already had some presence within the north, notably Countdown, Educating Yorkshire (in nearby Dewsbury) and Red Riding. However the independent production sector is strong and fast growing across the region – Emmerdale on ITV set up here in 1972. Channel 4 moving to this cultural city in the North will enrich people’s lives as well as bringing huge benefits to the region. As talent is moving away from London, Channel 4’s decision demonstrates the immense pulling power of the city.
