During Lockdown, people have been looking to do things that make them feel better and lift the spirits, and what better way to do so than by looking at a lovely festive Christmas Tree in your home. This year people have been ‘putting up the tree’ much earlier – I did ours nearly two weeks ago and am so glad I did! The tree is the centrepiece of family festivities, albeit those celebrations may look a little different this year depending on the Covid-19 tiers, however we will cover their branches with beautiful baubles, sparkling lights with gifts for friends and family lovingly wrapped underneath. Over 8 million Christmas trees will be purchased this year, so it is important to get your Christmas tree right, so at David Phillip Estate Agents here are a few tips on helping you choose

I recently watched an Interview on Sky TV with Dame Sharon White the CEO of John Lewis which I found fascinating and very re-assuring in terms of the Customer Experience. I wrote down some of her words which are those we totally believe in at David Phillip Estate Agents:- - Be the “leanest, simplest and fastest” - “follow the customer” - “respond rapidly to how customers are wanting to shop” - “trusted brand, principles and values” - “working in partnerships where trust is at the heart of what customers want” - “fair value is never going to go out of fashion”

We were pleased to read a couple of days ago via Rightmove that the Yorkshire and Humber area have seen a 5.1% increase in house prices year on year. Miles shipside, the Commercial Director of Rightmove commented:- “Owners coming to the market this Spring face the best-selling prospect for several years with good demand for the right properties at the right price However, he also warned that “sellers should be careful not to get carried away with their pricing, as this still is a price sensitive market with stretched buyer affordability – those who overprice miss out on a window of activity that could run to at least the next Brexit deadline at the end of the year” We totally agree with his sentiment on pricing, and although at David Phillip Estate Agents we price competitively, we also want to be realistic too. Some agents often over-price to win an instruction, only to see a price reduction after a couple of weeks.

As storm Ciara raged across the UK, Yorkshire too took a battering with the wind and rain causing damage and flooding. Friends who live locally posted on Facebook, and I was surprised at how much damage and flooding there was around the Otley area. If winds are blowing above 50 mph, then this is when you can unfortunately start seeing damage to your home, with trees toppling, power lines coming down and debris being blown around. All this relentless weather can leave you with a damaged roof and even cause leaks that can impact your home interior too. Once the storm has passed, it is important to check that your roof is not damaged, document any problems and work with your insurance company. By following these steps, you can ensure that any damage is noticed quickly-

Dementia is one of the greatest challenges facing our ageing society. Two thirds of people living with dementia live in their own home with their families currently providing the majority of care and support, this can be tiring and stressful - physically, emotionally and financially. A large number of people with dementia also live alone and can be at particular risk of isolation.

The start of the New Year is a time when people think about the next stages of their careers and perhaps start thinking about looking for a new job. Most people ‘go to work’, but what if you look at it a different way and just ‘work’. Work traditionally may have meant traveling to an office and working from 9am to 5.30 pm, but in a society more focussed around 24/7 and with the benefits of modern technology and techniques, some forward thinking companies may offer working alternatives that not only ensure an improved Customer Experience but also provide employees with a more flexible, productive way of working too.
