As storm Ciara raged across the UK, Yorkshire too took a battering with the wind and rain causing damage and flooding. Friends who live locally posted on Facebook, and I was surprised at how much damage and flooding there was around the Otley area. If winds are blowing above 50 mph, then this is when you can unfortunately start seeing damage to your home, with trees toppling, power lines coming down and debris being blown around. All this relentless weather can leave you with a damaged roof and even cause leaks that can impact your home interior too. Once the storm has passed, it is important to check that your roof is not damaged, document any problems and work with your insurance company. The start of the New Year is a time when people think about the next stages of their careers and perhaps start thinking about looking for a new job. Most people ‘go to work’, but what if you look at it a different way and just ‘work’. Work traditionally may have meant traveling to an office and working from 9am to 5.30 pm, but in a society more focussed around 24/7 and with the benefits of modern technology and techniques, some forward thinking companies may offer working alternatives that not only ensure an improved Customer Experience but also provide employees with a more flexible, productive way of working too.

Recently I have been delivering leaflets promoting David Phillip Estate Agents to the residents of Bramhope, and as I walked around this lovely area in North Leeds I was impressed with the number of beautiful Christmas wreaths adorning many of the properties. We also attended the switching on of the Bramhope Christmas lights this year, which is a great yearly tradition for the residents of Bramhope too. This got me thinking about the Christmas traditions that we have not only in the UK but also around the world – here are a few.

At David Phillip Estate Agents based in Bramhope, we have just been instructed to take on an immaculately presented cottage in Pool-in Wharfedale. The property is surrounded by private woodland, and therefore benefits from wildlife and wild birds in their natural habitat. The bird table in the garden was full of a variety of birds, which got me thinking about how we look after wild birds, particularly in the middle of winter when food might be scarce.

Think Christmas is a quiet time for people looking to move home? - you may want to think again! When looking to sell a property, people often think that the New Year is the best time to market their property, and it really is an excellent time, however there is a definite advantage to looking to market your home before Christmas and the New Year rush . Christmas is a time when family and friends are together, plans are formed for the next year and buying a new home, looking for a new job or moving to an area with a good school catchment area may all be on the horizons

I read with interest an article published today that the RICS this week have launched the new mandatory RICS Home Survey Standard, following an industry and consumer consultation held earlier this year.
The Help to Buy ISA was launched four years ago to help first time buyers who are hoping to buy a property. The scheme is designed to help you save for a mortgage deposit to buy a home. Savings are tax free

It’s that time of year when the Christmas trees go up, becoming the centrepiece of our family festivities. We will cover their branches with beautiful baubles, sparkling lights and gifts for friends and family lovingly wrapped underneath.
