We love to visit the Cinema in Harrogate, it feels like home from home with the comfy sofas, soft carpets and lots of seating space, however a Sunday visit can be quite costly when you add the cinema tickets, the bottle of shared wine, the taxi’s and lunch afterwards. If that was for up to 8 people, the spend would end up being quite costly, so … imagine if you had your own home cinema/theatre, with luxury seating, and the best possible sound and lighting money could buy – take a look at the Old Barn in Adel, Leeds.
I read with interest the article on Property Eye today, written by Zoopla Managing Director Charlie Bryant who writes ‘the way agents operate has changed significantly over the last five years, you are no longer reliant on the portals for marketing homes – that is as it should be. Digital Marketing has empowered agents to take matters into their own hands to a far greater extent. Different audiences will also respond in varying ways to the myriad of communications channels now out there and often a message needs to be seen or heard across multiple platforms to resonate.’ He also writes, ‘In May, Zoopla surveyed 2,000 people who have either sold their property in the last 18 months or who were currently looking to move or sell over the next year and a half. An over whelming proportion of these house-hunters (70%) told us that they use a combination of estate agency websites and property portals when searching for their next home. This reflects the savviness of the general consumer in the digital age The research demonstrates that a hybrid strategy when marketing a home is key to maximising eyeballs to ensure it is sold or let out as quickly as possible and for the best possible price.’ Great words from Charlie Bryant, and at David Phillip Estate Agents we total agree:- One Size doesn’t fit all
In today’s busy working world, the distance from home to work can often be a long and difficult commute. The impact of driving to work can also eat into your working day, whilst also impacting on the environment – home working can reduce your carbon footprint with car emissions as well as saving travelling expenses. Today you do not necessarily need to physically go to work, you just work regardless of the location, and as long as you have the right environment in which to work, supported by the best technology and it works well for you as well as for the company you are employed by then this can be a viable alternative If you are a small business then, working from home can also provide the advantage of not paying hefty business charges too. So how do you make this transition from travelling to work to arriving straight to your ‘desk’ which can be a bit jarring first thing on a morning! - go straight to your ‘ to-do’ list and by starting first thing, this can be much more effective than starting with breakfast and allowing the morning sluggishness to set in – have your breakfast mid-morning when you are ready for a break

If all the trappings and stresses of modern living are not for you, then looking to live that off-grid dream may be the perfect solution and the vision of an ideal lifestyle. So if you are looking for a simpler sustainable life, where do you start and what does off-grid living actually mean? To some people it may mean living off the main national grid, but to other people, this may extend to a life of total self- sufficiency, without relying on public utilities or water supply.

At David Phillip Estate Agents, one of our favourite Instagram accounts is ‘Find this door’ it has 182k followers and is a ‘community of Door Lovers’ – we love the vibrant and unusual pictures it posts of doors all over the world that are interesting, beautiful and historical and in nearly all cases they really stir the imagination. As I look at these pictures when they are posted on Instagram, it makes me wonder what lies behind each wonderful door and also the importance of the front door of any property.

First impressions count, and particularly if you are selling your home. How the outside of your home looks can make a massive impact on what a potential buyer may think – if you give them the wow factor from the outside then they will be excited and hopeful for the viewing inside, but if you disappoint right from the offset then it will take twice as long to win the potential buyers over.
