As the Met Office issues a weather warning and I needed to scrape the ice off my car this morning, I was thinking that at this time of year there is not much you can do about the outside temperature, but there are things you can do to keep warm inside, and more importantly take advantage of some little practical tips to stop the heat escaping and prevent burst pipes.

They say the three most stressful things in life are death, divorce and moving house. Buying a house is probably one of the biggest purchases people ever make and it’s not surprising that emotions run high in the process.

I have been involved in buying and selling property in North and West Yorkshire for over 30 years as a senior Director and Shareholder at one of Yorkshire’s biggest Independent Estate Agents. During this time, I have seen many ways in which the Estate Agency world has changed – introduction of floorplans, videos and 3D virtual tours, the launch of property portals such as Rightmove and Zoopla for marketing properties on a global stage to name just a few.

Some good reasons to use an Estate Agent Only recently did the OFT come out and suggest consumers should consider “private seller platforms”. Perhaps implying a need for awareness? Enjoy the Christmas Experience I called into the John Lewis store near York last week in pursuit of a trouser press and was instantly impressed by the amount of Christmas decorations, gifts and treats already displayed. I have since noticed that Christmas TV advertising is well underway, plus the X Factor and Strictly Come dancing are now rolling nicely along too. Christmas is on its way but there’s still time to get simple things sorted in your home in order to sell by Christmas (according to sources at HomeOwnerAlliance) and these include:- Ensuring that you have good exterior lighting helps create that better first impression when buyers come to view. Don’t ignore the back garden, clear away leaves, trim the hedges, make sure your gutters are cleaned and that any summer furniture or toys are removed from the patio. Even highlight a corner of the garden, tree or a plant so that it can look inviting seen from the inside as the longer nights are approaching. Well stocked bird feeders also create a lovely addition to your garden which will delight potential owners.
