About Cookridge & it’s history
Cookridge is a suburb of Leeds and in the Adel & Wharfedale ward. It makes a good impression with its tranquil and picturesque views. Cookridge is situated 5 miles out of Leeds city centre and has good commuting access to Leeds, and to towns slightly further away such as Bradford and Harrogate.
In 1715 Ralph Thoresby described Cookridge as a village 4 miles from Leeds and 3 miles from Cookridge.
There is also a 17th Century Grade 2 listed house, which is known as the jewel of Cookridge. Cookridge Hall has been owned by a cast of powerful families since it was built in 1538. It is now a golf club, health and leisure centre.
Cookridge boasts a wide range of amenities including The Fox and Hounds. It is a cosy pub, with roaring fires in winter and a large sunny patio to enjoy a beer on during the summer.
Golden Acre Park provides great opportunity to enjoy the outdoors with the children. It has 55 hectares of wonderful gardens, a lake and an abundance of nature!
In regard to shopping amenities, there is a Tesco Express and Asda supermarket. In the nearby suburb of Adel, there is a market with products and services. Cookridge has easy access to many shops, pubs and restaurants in Horsforth and Headingley. Horsforth also has its own train station with links to Leeds, Harrogate and York.
